Here are the most commonly asked questions about West Yorkshire Garage Conversions - simply click on the questions listed below to reveal the answers.

If you have a question about our Garage Conversions not shown below, please contact us online or you can call us free on 0800 026 4455 - our advice is free and without any obligation to buy.

  • Do you offer finance to help me pay for a garage conversion?

Yes - West Yorkshire Windows can arrange a variety of affordable and convenient finance options to suit you and your budget - making your garage conversion more affordable. Making an application is simple and we promise you a quick decision, normally within 24 hours.

  • What do we need to do when our finance is approved?

If you’re arranging your own finance, you’ll need to call us as soon as you get the go ahead. If you’re taking up one of our offers, the company will tell us both directly, so there’s no need to call as we will get in touch with you.

  • What happens if finance is refused?

Finance companies can turn down people for lots of reasons, for example if you’ve moved several times over the past few years. In these circumstances, we always do our best to help and sometimes it’s worth trying another provider, especially if they know you.

  • I’ve applied for finance with West Yorkshire Windows. How long will approval take?

Sometimes our finance company will say ‘yes’ almost immediately and on other occasions it may take them a few days. This short delay can be for any number of reasons and you should not be unduly concerned.

  • Will I need Building Regulations Approval for my new garage conversion?

In short, yes. Without it you could be committing an illegal act and you are running the risk of your local council ordering you to reverse the work done. This means that you would have to turn your conversion back into a garage as before. It may also mean that you experience difficulties in selling your property if you ever decide sell in the future. You must obtain a completion certificate which proves that all the work done has been approved by your local authority.

  • Must planning permission be obtained for a garage conversion?

There are very few garage conversions that require planning permission, but if yours does, we will deal with all applications and liaisons with your local planning department. It can take around 6-8 weeks for applications to be accepted or otherwise, but if approved we will start the planning stages as soon it is granted.

  • Can you convert detached or semi-detached garages?

This is a possibility, but we would be best placed to answer this question once we have visited and assessed your home, so please call us free on 0800 026 4455 to arrange a suitable time for us to come and see you, with no obligations to buy of course.

  • Can you partially convert a garage?

Again this is something we can do, but we would need to come and view the property first before judging if this is feasible.

  • Do you provide any flooring for garage conversions?

We offer a wide range of flooring solutions ideally suited for garage conversions - freephone 0800 026 4455 for more details.

  • Will my household be disrupted while the work is done?

The vast majority of work we need to do takes place solely in the garage. The only time we need to step into your home is when we build the entrance from the conversion into the home. Any noise created will be kept to a minimum so that we do not disrupt either you or your neighbours.

  • What about any electrical, heating and plumbing requirements I may need in the conversion?

We provide an 'everything under one roof' service, so yes we are able to help with any electrical, heating or plumbing issues. Just make sure that you make us aware of exactly what is it you need.

  • Is it possible to have additional roof work done to the garage conversion?

If you can advise us of the type of roof work required, we may then be able to fulfil your needs.

  • I would like loft space to be created in my garage conversion, can you help?

There are several options available for people who require loft space, but again just let us know exactly what it is you require and we will do our very best to oblige.

  • Will you remove my old garage door?

Of course. We will replace it with brickwork and install appropriate windows and doors so that people will struggle to notice that it even used to be a garage.

  • Can you blend the brickwork used on the conversion with the brickwork used on my home?

We will do our very best to find a brickwork that blends in beautifully with what you already have in your home.

  • Is my garage conversion guaranteed?

Every garage conversion comes with a one year guarantee in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.

  • How long will it take you to complete my new garage conversion?

We always aim to have conversions completed within 10 working days, but this varies between different homes. We will be able to provide you with a better estimate once we have assessed your property.

  • I would prefer my garage conversion to be fully insulated and damp-proof, is this possible?

It is indeed, as we want to ensure that your new conversion is warm enough for all year round use. If you are worried about damp getting in, we can damp-proof as required.

  • Would you be able to move my meter box/boiler when converting the garage?

We can box these in if you wish, but we cannot move them as this is usually something that can only be done by your utility provider or a qualified electrician/plumber.
