Conservatories have grown in popularity massively over the years. Travel to most neighbourhoods in the UK and you are sure to spot a conservatory sitting in the back garden of many homes. Their usefulness has made them one of the most sought after ways of extending a home and providing it with a whole new look. However, there is a bigger and more exclusive way of changing the face of a home courtesy of the orangery.

You will notice that orangeries in Leeds, orangeries in Yorkshire and orangeries in Huddersfield are slowly starting to appear in more homes. The orangery could almost be viewed as a superior version of the conservatory as it is a grander and even better looking structure. Whereas a conservatory is made up mostly of uPVC, the majority of an orangery is built using brick so it is less noticeable that it is an extension of a home.

It is a bigger investment than a conservatory, but that investment should add value onto the price of your home so the money you are spending on it could be recouped if you ever decide to sell up. Once installed you can use it for whatever is best for your own lifestyle and you can add stylish looking flooring, suitable furniture and great looking blinds to make it look that little bit more special inside. There is a good chance that it will end up becoming the room you rely upon to provide you with the peace and quiet you need when you just fancy switching off at night or weekends.

An orangery is also double glazed so you do not need to worry about excess noise disturbing you as the two panes of glass will act as a sound reducer and will also be easily to clean.

The Managing Director of West Yorkshire Windows, Andrew Glover, last month completed a gruelling nine day long, 1,500 mile bike ride for charity. The event, created and organised by GM Fundraising and christened Rome 2 Home, was designed to raise essential funds for Hope House in Oswestry, Shropshire, who provide care for children with terminal conditions and offer support to their families.

The ride, which started in the Italian capital of Rome and concluded at Hope House, involved the crossing of many testing areas including The Alps and Mount Ventoux, a 16 mile long, 6000ft uphill summit climb usually covered by riders in the Tour de France.

Rome 2 Home Team

Andrew was one of a group of 18 riders involved in the cycling challenge and he has previous experience as he also took part in the Ride 4 Hope charity ride in 2008. Although it was one of the most challenging experiences he has ever undergone, he says that it was well worth the effort.

“We did the ride to raise money for the kids and to try and make their lives a bit better. We also wanted to help the families of ‘terminally ill’ children cope with what must be a very difficult and trying time. I have just ridden over 1500 miles or so, lost my phone, stayed in some horrible hotels, feel tired and have missed my family, but my life is easy compared to those who have to go through such suffering.”

GM Fundraising has for the last 7 years focused its efforts on raising money for Hope House Children’s Hospices as they receive very little support from the government and most of their operating costs are met through charitable donations.

Although the ride has now been completed there is still time for you to make a donation so that GM Fundraising can meet their target of £55,000. Just visit www.justgiving.com/rome-2-home.

Uswitch has found out that households are paying £84 a year in hidden taxes on their energy bills to help meet the cost of combating climate change, and these charges could double to £176 within a decade. You can fight back against this by relying on your heating and electricity less often by investing in some double glazing.

This is because double glazing in Gloucester, as well as conservatories in Hereford, conservatories in Bristol is designed to provide you with all year round warmth and comfort as they will utilise the outdoor heat to warm you up inside. Double glazing could bring a whole new dimension to your home as they will bring in a huge amount of light and it could end up being  somewhere you spend the majority of your time when at home. During the long summer nights it will mean you do not have to rely on your electricity as much as you would at other times in the year. They will also keep you cool as they will shield you against excessive heat.

When you have special occasions in your home and invite guests into your living room, they will definitely leave suitably impressed by the appearance of your windows, both internally and externally. Ensure that you choose a set of windows with a colour that most suits your household as not all window finishes will suit the traditional or modern looking home. The right choice can add enormous value onto a property.

A brand new set of windows are almost certain to outlast your stay in the home, as once they are installed they tend to be ever present. They will also continually look good with just the minimum of maintenance necessary. So, put all your energy’s into buying brand new windows this summer and save thousands in the long run.

If you have a growing family and a small property, you may increasingly be suffering from a shortage of space within the home. Not everyone can afford to move to a larger home, as not only are property prices on the rise, but other issues such as removal costs also need to be taken into consideration. Even brick built extensions and loft extensions can set you back a lot of money. There is however an alternative way of extending your home if you have a garage which is standing dormant.

When you think about it garages take up an enormous amount of room in the home, space that could be used for many different purposes. So, if you are feeling cramped in your home you should think about garage conversions. A single garage can be transformed into a room of your choice, whether this is an extra bedroom for the kids or your own personal gym, a great way of saving your money on extortionate membership fees.

The time it takes to convert a garage is minimal, so you could be using your new found space within a matter of days. The converting of a garage could in fact boost the value of your home if you ever decide to sell in the future. If you have a double garage you need not worry about where you are going to park your car, as installers can also just convert half of the garage. So, you can use one half as living space and still have room in the other half for your set of wheels.

If you decide to go ahead with a garage conversion, make sure that the installer helps you to obtain planning permission from your local authority before installation begins. Also ensure that double glazing in Bradford and double glazing in Leeds is used as a finishing touch so that your old garage becomes a thing of the past.

When people think of conservatories they usually associate them with being useful during the winter months and pretty much unusable during the summer time. Old style conservatories would get boiling hot during the summer, so hot that they would be unbearable to sit in on those really hot days. But, things have changed as a conservatory in the present day is able to adapt to the outside temperature so that you can now use them all year round.

Conservatories in Doncaster, conservatories in Leeds and conservatories in Sheffield nowadays are made up of uPVC, a material which can help keep the conservatory cool at all times. Old conservatories were made up of timber which was a poor conductor of heat, so not only would it not be able to keep the heat out, but it would also commonly allow a lot of heat generated inside the conservatory to escape.

There are also more conservatory designs available, rather than just a standard styled conservatory. This means that no matter what the shape of your property is you are likely to be able to find a conservatory that blends in beautifully with your home so that it does not stand out in a negative way. It is a durable construction which can withstand even the most extreme of weather so you need not worry about it becoming damaged or unstable.

When you purchase a conservatory most installers will supply it with an extended guarantee, such is the likelihood that it will last for years to come. If anything does happen, then they will usually visit your home to repair it without costing you anything. You should never purchase a conservatory without such guarantees as it is such a big investment and you do not want to be wasting your money or time.

If you have recently purchased a conservatory as a way of extending your home, then you may not have yet come to a decision as to how you are going to utilise it. You have a huge amount of space at your disposal and you will have made a hefty investment, so you need to make sure that you make the most of what you have. Make the conservatory somewhere that you want to spend time in regularly and make it fit for everyone to enjoy.

Start with the type of flooring you want to be present. A carpeted floor will be an ideal choice if you are worried about the kids slipping and hurting themselves. However, if you want to go that extra mile, then tiled heated flooring can be a perfect solution for those cold winter months. If you want to keep the sun out of your eyes and avoid a glare from the sun, there are blinds available for conservatories in Doncaster, conservatories in Sheffield and conservatories in Leeds.

If you feel the need to chill and relax in your new conservatory, then there are different types of furniture that can be installed. A sofa can be added so you have a place where you can read the daily newspaper first thing in the morning, or put a breakfast table in there so you can eat your cereal or toast in luxury. You could even install a TV so that when you want to watch something that the rest of the family does not want to see, you can revert to the conservatory to avoid any clashes.

Make the conservatory into a place you want to spend time in on a regular basis as it offers so much potential. The right decision can add value onto the price of your home and benefit all the family.
