Latest News on Home Improvements throughout Yorkshire

Conservatories have grown in popularity massively over the years. Travel to most neighbourhoods in the UK and you are sure to spot a conservatory sitting in the back garden of many homes. Their usefulness has made them one of the most sought after ways of extending a home and providing it with a whole new look. However, there is a bigger and more exclusive way of changing the face of a home courtesy of the orangery.

You will notice that orangeries in Leeds, orangeries in Yorkshire and orangeries in Huddersfield are slowly starting to appear in more homes. The orangery could almost be viewed as a superior version of the conservatory as it is a grander and even better looking structure. Whereas a conservatory is made up mostly of uPVC, the majority of an orangery is built using brick so it is less noticeable that it is an extension of a home.

It is a bigger investment than a conservatory, but that investment should add value onto the price of your home so the money you are spending on it could be recouped if you ever decide to sell up. Once installed you can use it for whatever is best for your own lifestyle and you can add stylish looking flooring, suitable furniture and great looking blinds to make it look that little bit more special inside. There is a good chance that it will end up becoming the room you rely upon to provide you with the peace and quiet you need when you just fancy switching off at night or weekends.

An orangery is also double glazed so you do not need to worry about excess noise disturbing you as the two panes of glass will act as a sound reducer and will also be easily to clean.

West Yorkshire Windows in Wakefield & Leeds were approached by Sky 1 to donate a conservatory for a lady called Val Lepedat for the Noel Edmonds Christmas Present TV show.

The Story
Valerie Lepedat, 66 was diagnosed with breast cancer ten years ago and she has been courageously fighting the disease ever since. After Val’s first cancer surgery at Doncaster Royal infirmary she joined the Patient Focus Group. Val thought her medical and nursing treatment was excellent but the compassion and added support that she felt she needed at such a time was missing.  This inspired Val and a fellow member of the Patient Focus Group, Lynne Rothwell to do something to help all cancer patients. Val and Lynne came up with the concept of The Aurora Center a dedicated unit offering free treatments to improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

The Aurora Centre’s aim is to boost the self esteem and self confidence of patients whilst undergoing and recovering from related treatments of cancer. The Centre offers a wide range of professional beauty therapy treatments to improve body image for female and male patients suffering from the effects of cancer and the side effects of its treatment. Patents can book pamper days, therapeutic massage, skin care and make-up advice, reflexology and advice on hair loss by one full time and two part time therapists that are specially trained to deal with the effects of cancer treatment.

Often a patient will not only lose their hair as a result of radio therapy but also their eyebrows, eyelashes and the skin can often change colour. The Aurora Center offers free therapies that resolve all these side effects. It has been recognised that improving a person’s sense of well-being will dramatically improve their chances of overcoming their illness. The center also offers its services for free to the patient’s family and carers as they also need a little more care during the patient’s treatment. The Centre employs 5 full and part time staff everyone else involved is a volunteer.

Val is a co-founder and the leading volunteer of Aurora and has built the center over the past 7 years to the point where it now gives its services free to over 500 patients a year. The Centre is totally funded by donation but the premises are owned by the NHS and are on hospital sites as the NHS fully endorse what Aurora is doing. Val is involved not only in the day to day running of the Centre but also with its three major fundraising events each year, a large fashion show (all the models are Aurora patents often wearing clothes that don’t hide the physical damage of cancer and its treatment) a golf tournament and a fun run along with a constant itinerary of small fund raising tasks.

The Aurora Centre at the Doncaster Infirmary has been so successful that Val and the Aurora team have opened a second Centre at the Mexborough Montague Hospital about 10 miles from Doncaster. The team also has plans to open a Centre in Manchester next year.

Jayne, Val’s nominator said “I cannot quantify the number of hours Val puts into the charity each and every week or the many compromises she must have made to her own family life in order to support Aurora, but Val does this very quietly and humbly avoiding recognition and reward when in reality she is to many ‘the face of Aurora’”

West Yorkshire Windows Donation
West Yorkshire Windows in Wakefield & Leeds supplied, built and fitted a new Orangery for the Aurora Centre that was finished at the end of November.  The Orangery will be used as a Reception area for the cancer sufferers and an area to relax.  On Sunday, Val got to see it for the first time.  Through out the entire build, she didn’t know anything about it.  The other part of her present was a trip to Tenerife with her family, including her son that flew over from Australia to see her.

As you can imagine, Val and everyone at the Aurora Centre were over the moon with their new Orangery installed by West Yorkshire Windows.

To view the Orangery designed and built by West Yorkshire Windows – you can watch the show on Sky 1 on December the 20th.

What are Orangeries?

Some people are wondering what exactly is an ‘Orangery’? Well, the orangeries we sell at Conservatory Outlet are similar to modern, Contemporary Conservatories.

One of the main feature of our Orangeries is that we utilise brickwork and columns within the design, so that you don’t have the uPVC conservatory bay pole or corner posts you would normally find with Conservatory.

orangery6

Also, we tend to fit lighting with down-lighters internally which creates a great look to the inside of the orangery, and sets it apart from a normal conservatory. To describe the difference in a basic way, an orangery feels more like a glass extension to your house due to the amount of glazing and glass roof.

The images shown are taken from examples of an installed orangery we used for a photoshoot. We have conservatories and orangeries set up at all of our showrooms around England and Wales.

tailor made orangery

There are numerous orangery designs available, including Victorian Orangeries, Edwardian Orangeries and more modern oranageries.

A big advantage of Conservatory Outlet orangeries is that they are very affordable. Please feel to ring us on 0800 915 8844 or request a quote online for further information.

One of the most challenging decisions you will need to make after buying a home or when embarking on a home improvement strategy is deciding on the style of your replacement windows and doors. Everybody wants an attractive and aesthetically pleasing home and the right double glazing windows and doors can go a long way to achieving this. Before undertaking any interior or exterior design project, you must first outline the major products that you require. You should look around and decide which styles you like and what materials you think will be best suited for you, as well as considering issues related to cost and maintenance.

A variety of attractive double glazing windows and doors are available on the market for relatively inexpensive prices. Traditionally windows and doors for residential properties have been manufactured using wood but recent trends have indicated a shift towards PVC windows. These PVC windows, doors and conservatories provide a great finish and have many advantages over the traditional wooden frames. You can also choose between casement or sash windows depending in the style of your home.

Features of double glazed windows

  • Double glazing windows are internally beaded windows where the glass is held from the inside and are considered more secure than traditional wooden framed windows.
  • Most PVC windows and PVC doors are multi-walled with internal reinforcements made from either aluminum or galvanized steel.
  • Frames are available in a variety of different colours. The standard colour for PVC windows and doors is white although there are various colour options and wood effect windows available.
  • PVC windows are much better for insulation purposes and have proven to be much more energy efficient.
  • Double glazing windows are also much stronger and have many additional security features to protect your home from intruders.

West Yorkshire Windows based in Leeds and Wakefield manufactures high quality PVC windows and doors with all these added features and many are available with special discounts and promotional offers. West Yorkshire Windows specialise in the design and installation of the latest energy efficient ‘A’ Rated double glazing PVC windows, doors, bespoke conservatories and orangeries. Providing helpful and expert advice for free and without any obligation to buy.

We built our new Orangery in the Wakefield Conservatory Showroom in December 2008. It was launched (completed) at the end of January. Since then we have sold over 20 new bespoke Orangeries to our customers throughout Yorkshire.

Orangeries really are a great way to extend your home and add valuable extra light. When you are sat in a uPVC Orangery, you feel like you are in a ‘proper’ room in your home.

What do we use to build it?
We build it with brick or stone pillars, uPVC windows, uPVC doors and a uPVC Conservatory roof. It can be glazed with Toughened Double Glazing to the frames and 35mm Polycarbonate to the roof. The conservatory in our Wakefield Showroom has our Solaris – Heat reflecting Polycarbonate in it. Solaris Polycarbonate can reflect up to 85% of the suns heat, make you conservatory or Orangery much more comfortable to sit in.

How much Do they cost?
There are 2 main things that make an Orangery more expensive. Firstly, the internal Pelmet detail adds extra cost, but the main thing is the time on site. It’s much more labour intensive to build a new Orangery than it is to build a new Conservatory

Why mot visit our Wakefield Or Leeds Conservatory Showroom today.

Dear Andrew,

We would like to say thank you for the superb conservatory.  Please pass our thanks on to everyone involved – the builders, fitters, electrician.

From the first visit to your showroom to the conservatory being completed everyone has been very professional and friendly.

We are thrilled to bits!

Why Choose A Conservatory or Orangery?

Your conservatory or tailor made orangery can be whatever you want it to be a place to play, entertain, socialise or simply relax. West Yorkshire Windows have designed and built hundreds, for every sort of purpose.

Because your conservatory or tailor made orangery can be whatever you want it to be…a place to play, entertain, socialise or simply relax. We’ve designed and built hundreds, for every sort of purpose.

They’re perfect not just as traditional sun rooms, garden rooms or dining rooms but as playrooms, home offices and lots more. A conservatory or orangery is also a great way to not just increase your living space, but to improve the value of your property as well.

Quick to install, you won’t have to move home or suffer the delay and disruption of a traditional brick built extension. And most of them don’t require planning permission, so you shouldn’t have to wait too long either.

A tailor made conservatory or beautiful orangery from West Yorkshire Windows is the perfect yet affordable solution to improving your lifestyle.

Adding Value to your home
Ask any estate agent and they’ll tell you that when it comes to selling a house, properties which include a conservatory are much more sort after by a buyer than those that don’t have one.

Home makeover shows are some of the most popular on television and regularly feature conservatories, with good reason. One of the most popular, ITV’s “Better Homes” featured the estate agent Michael O’Flaherty. Here’s what he said on one of the programmes;

“Speed of installation, bright, airy interiors and an ability to be used as a flexible space make conservatories ‘hot property’. Many homeowners see the value of their property increase by around 5%. In terms of value added, each conservatory featured on Better Homes has beaten other home improvement projects such as loft conversions and kitchen extensions hands down. I can only see conservatory installations increasing further. There are few home improvement investments you could make that will provide this sort of payback”.

So whatever you spend on a conservatory or orangery, you’re certain to see the market valuation of your property increase – then just sit back, relax and enjoy your new room.

Another Room
The sensation of space and light you experience inside a conservatory or orangery make them practical and mysteriously attractive rooms. We can design and build your new space to deliver…whatever your dreams. If you need a new dining room, or an extra lounge area to enjoy some peace and quiet, adding a conservatory is a simple and affordable solution. A conservatory or orangery from West Yorkshire Windows will be ready to use in just a few weeks, once we get started.

Customers tell us how stress free the whole experience has been from beginning to end. Imagine, your beautiful new room will mean none of the hassle of moving home and away from family and friends. You’ll have none of the mess, delay and disruption people often experience with traditional brick built extensions.

Once you start using it, you’ll find yourself spending more time there than you expected. Not just another room…a lovely room…a space for life.
