Opinions about the state of the market are always particularly free-flowing at the start of a new year and 2018 has been no different. The general consensus seems to be that while the requirement for white casement windows will continue to drop off somewhat, there is still demand for windows and doors and in in some product sectors, the demand is rising. It’s about choosing the right products to make and sell and the right companies to work with. West Yorkshire Windows has hit the ground running in 2018 to ensure it has everything homeowners need for their home improvement projects this year.
Growth areas among windows and doors, interestingly is among the higher ticket items. The homeowners that now have money to spend on home improvements are the more discerning consumers that are looking to differentiate their property or make the bigger ‘Grand Design’ changes to their homes. This can be extensions, conservatories (upgrading existing structures or building new), bi-fold doors or changing the colour of their windows to change the overall look of their forever home.
The main growth area we’ve seen directly at West Yorkshire Windows, in terms of products, is structures; mostly solid roof extensions. We spend far more time upgrading traditional PVC- U conservatories than selling them nowadays! We don’t see this changing as the combination of ‘creating extra useable space’ with a solid roof and ‘bringing the outside in’ using bi-folds is as popular as ever with homeowners.
Prepared for Growth
To ensure we’re well equipped to meet increasing demand for our products, we’ve been busy with acquisitions to expand our successful business model around the country. We acquired Coastline at the end of 2016 and Trent Valley Windows more recently. After a showroom refurbishment and re-launch of the Coastline brand, the subsidiary is now thriving, with its original team operating well as part of the West Yorkshire Windows group. The Trent Valley business we have acquired is very much an asset to us and by joining forces with the excellent team, we hope to grow into the region’s largest and best installer of windows, doors and conservatories. Add these acquisitions to two previous showroom openings in Chesterfield and Nottingham and this sees us starting 2018 with nine showrooms, as far south as Isle of Wight and as far north as Leeds.
Despite our significant expansion, our focus remains on excellent craftsmanship, value for money and outstanding customer service. Homeowners can find the products they’re looking for in some shape or form from numerous suppliers, but we want to provide a service they’ll remember, recommend and use again for their next project. It’s service, quality of products and quality and ease of the installation process that can set two companies far apart. We aim to set the standard for good practice.
