How To Retain A Healthy Mind And Body In Your Home

Stay Healthy At Home

We hugely sympathise with anyone who is finding being at home for this extended period something of a struggle. It’s not an easy thing to do, far from it, but just remember, this won’t go on forever and there’s light at the end of the tunnel, as some of the restrictions are slowly being eased.

Try to retain an element of positivity to get you through what’s left of lockdown and try to sustain a healthy mind and body – your mind and body are so integral at this testing time.

We have created a three-step programme for you to follow that’s designed to keep your mind and body razor-sharp:

Make time for breathing and relaxing

You shouldn’t take your foot completely off the brake and do next to nothing, as tempting as it may be, but you also don’t want to put yourself under too much pressure.

Have a daily task list full of little jobs you can do through each day, whilst leaving a window of time to talk to people who you cannot see at the moment.

Using video platforms like Zoom and Skype on your phone, tablet or laptop is a great way of staying connected. Just have a straight conversation or host a quiz night and play the role of Quizmaster with everyone playing having to don a form of fancy dress for laughs. It really will lift the spirits.

Head for the garden at every opportunity

We are now all permitted to have as much outdoor exercise as we want, which is good as we need plenty of sunshine and Vitamin D.

Once you’ve been for your walk or jog, go to your garden when the weather is at its best where you can tuck into your tea or sample your supper. Sit in a place that collects lots of the sun.

The schools aren’t due back yet, so if you have kids, do their homeschooling outside. They will find outdoor lessons to be fun and when they’re having fun, they’re likely to take things in more. All that outdoor air will also help you sleep well.

Take up baking

Eating too much cake isn’t too great for the waistline, but doing lots of baking is great for the mind. Scientists will tell you that it relieves stress, makes you happy and aids mental health.

How could it not make you smile when you go to the oven and see that your chocolate brownies or Victoria sponge cake have that show stopping quality?

If your kitchen cupboards are full of mixing bowls, baking trays and other cooking utensils, and there’s a few of you at home, you could have a home Bake Off. Assign someone with the role of Paul and Prue and see who is the ‘Star Baker’ in the family.
