FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Let us help you find the perfect door for your home. Browse through our frequently asked questions for more detailed information..
Are standard composite doors and Solid Core composite doors pretty much the same?

No, they are different. Composite doors vary in depth with standard doors being around 44mm in depth and being foam filled. Standard composite doors are lightweight and have GRP colour skins.

However, Solid Core doors are usually 48mm in depth, made from laminated layers of timber. This ensures they are more durable than the standard composite doors. With UPVC colour skins, there are more options to achieve an exact colour match with your door frame.

Solid Core composite doors are more expensive than the standard alternative. West Yorkshire Windows can advise you on this when you speak with a friendly advisor.

Can I have two different colours on the internal side and external side of the door?

In most circumstances, yes you can. Why not go for a bold colour for the outside and a neutral colour for the inside, or vice versa? There are so many possibilities! A West Yorkshire Windows advisor can let you know if your chosen colours are available.

MORE COMMON QUESTIONS

Our helpful team is on hand to answer all of your questions. You will likely find answers to some of your questions below.

How many keys would I be given?

While you are given 3 keys as standard, you can ask for extra keys when placing your order or later on if you wish.

Will I be able to use the same key for both doors? (Suited)

Yes, this is an option. Please tell your West Yorkshire Windows advisor that you would like to use the same key for both doors.

What does Secured by Design mean?

Secured by Design (SBD) is the authorised police security initiative that has the aim of improving the safety of buildings and their nearby surroundings to provide safe places to live.

SBD’s product based accreditation scheme, referred to as the Police Preferred Specification, provides a well-known standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime, which includes windows and doors.

Many of West Yorkshire Windows’ products have been tested and meet the standards. Conservatory Oulet is our sister manufacturing company, and they are a member of SBD. If you are worried about the security of your home, one of our advisors can give you more details about this great initiative and what it can do for your home.

What does a 3-star rated door barrel mean?

A door barrel that has been given a 3 star rating has the highest possible rating, which means it has been extensively tested for maximum security to prevent intruders from entering your home. West Yorkshire Windows’ door cylinders feature snap-secure technology with a lockdown mode to enhance security.

Can I fold back the French doors completely for a full view of my garden?

Yes, you can. To ensure your doors can do this, opt for French doors with an egress hinge.

How do I choose between sliding patio or bi-folding doors?

Both doors would give you a stunning view of the outdoors and they would open up your living space to the outside. If you want doors that fold back fully, choose bi-fold doors. However, sliding patio doors consist of very slim frames, so they would offer a maximal view of your garden when the doors are closed. Speak to one of West Yorkshire Windows’ friendly advisors for more guidance on this.

Do you offer finance to help me pay for windows and doors?

Yes. To make life easy for you, West Yorkshire Windows can arrange a variety of affordable and convenient easy payment finance options (subject to application & status). Applying for finance is simple and we promise you a quick decision. Everything can be sorted out with you in the comfort of your home or at your local West Yorkshire Windows Showroom, so you can enjoy whatever you’ve set your heart on right away.

What do we need to do when our finance is approved?

If you’re arranging your own finance, you’ll need to call us as soon as you get the go ahead. If you’re taking up one of our offers, the company will tell us both directly, so there’s no need to call as we will get in touch with you.

What happens if finance is refused?

Finance companies can turn down people for lots of reasons, for example if you’ve moved several times over the past few years. In these circumstances, we always do our best to help and sometimes it’s worth trying another provider, especially if they know you.

I’ve applied for finance with West Yorkshire Windows. How long will approval take?

Sometimes our finance company will say ‘yes’ almost immediately and on other occasions it may take them a few days. This short delay can be for any number of reasons and you should not be unduly concerned.
